AAUP is a fast-growing union of higher education workers. We are mobilizing the higher ed sector against increasing partisan attacks that undermine academic freedom and attacks on important gains of the civil rights movement. Our goal is to defend the higher ed sector while also leading the fight for fair wages, job security, academic freedom, an end to student debt, and expanded collective bargaining rights for higher education workers. This position requires occasional travel throughout the United States and reports to the Director of Organizing and Services.

About the role

The Data Organizer will help transform the Association into an organized, fighting union by supporting staff across different new union and contract campaigns to create systems and processes of data collection and analysis. The role will also collaborate with field staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize campaign data systems to ensure organizers and workers have access to accurate, timely, and actionable information.
  • Collaborate with the database IT team to identify system improvements, troubleshoot issues, and implement platform enhancements that meet organizing needs.
  • Develop and maintain data collection processes, dashboards, trackers, reports, Google Sheets, and other tools that support organizing campaigns and strategic decision-making.
  • Translate campaign data into clear, accessible formats that help organizers track progress, identify opportunities, and inform campaign strategy.
  • Monitor data quality and integrity by supporting data entry, maintaining data hygiene, and implementing best practices for data management.
  • Train and support chapter leaders on use of the database.
  • Provide technical and analytical support for special projects and other organizational priorities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in union data support, campaign data management, or a related role.
  • Full proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, including pivot tables, formulas, cross-sheet calculations, data analysis, and data management workflows.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and solve complex problems in a fast-paced organizing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in data support for unions.
  • Valid driver’s license and the willingness and ability to travel occasionally throughout the United States and work long, irregular hours and weekends as needed.
  • Experience using CRM or membership database systems (e.g., Salesforce, Action Builder, BroadStripes, or similar platforms).
  • Experience supporting union organizing campaigns and a demonstrated commitment to the mission of the labor movement.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
