Data Governance Lead

Key Responsibilities

• Define and establish the data governance operating model for lab data
• Design governance structures including:Governance bodies and forumsStewardship frameworkEscalation and decision processes
• Align with enterprise data governance standards
• Define and formalize:Data ownership (business accountability)Data stewardship (data quality and lifecycle management)
• Establish clear accountability across:Lab, QA, IT, and data domains
• Define and manage System of Record (SoR) strategy across key lab entities
• Establish authoritative sources for:Methods, samples, experiments, results, instruments, documents
• Resolve conflicts and ensure alignment across systems
• Define enterprise-aligned standards for:Canonical identifiersNaming and versioning conventionsLifecycle states and controlled vocabularies
• Ensure consistency across LIMS, SDMS, ELN, and data platform
• Define and implement metadata standards and frameworks
• Enable data governance capabilities using:Microsoft Purview (or equivalent)
• Ensure coverage for:Data lineageData classification and sensitivityData ownership and discoverability
• Define data quality strategy and framework, including:Critical data elements (CDEs)Data quality rules and thresholdsMonitoring and reporting mechanisms
• Establish issue management and remediation processes
• Define governance workflows for:Data onboardingDefinition changes and model updatesSoR changes and exception handlingData quality issue resolution
• Ensure governance processes are operationalized and scalable
• Collaborate with:Data ArchitectsSolution Architects
• Ensure governance standards are embedded in:Data modelsIntegration patternsAzure data platform architecture
• Ensure governance aligns with:GxP / FDA regulatory requirementsData privacy and security policies
• Support audit readiness and traceability requirements
• Engage stakeholders across:Lab, QA, IT, Enterprise Data
• Drive adoption of governance practices through:WorkshopsTraining sessionsCommunication and change management
• Lead governance validation workshops to:Confirm SoR, metadata, data quality, and RACI
• Support program governance forums and decision-making processes

Requirements

• Mandatory skills: Bachelor's / Master's degree in Data Management, IT, Business, or related field 10+ years of experience in: Core Skills Data governanceData management and data qualityEnterprise data programs Data Governance Data ownership and stewardship models System of Record (SoR) frameworks Governance operating model design
• Standards & Metadata Metadata management and cataloging Data classification and sensitivity Naming conventions and identifier strategies
• Data Quality Data quality frameworks and rules Issue management and remediation workflows Monitoring and reporting
• Tools & Platforms Microsoft Purview (or equivalent data catalog tools) Familiarity with Azure data platforms Governance tooling and workflow automation
• Stakeholder & Change Management Strong facilitation and communication Governance adoption and training Cross-functional leadership Domain Experience (Highly Preferred) Experience in:Lab informatics (LIMS, SDMS, ELN)Scientific data and regulated environments Strong understanding of:Data lifecycle in lab environmentsTraceability and audit requirements
