Data Governance Lead

As our Data Governance Lead, you will architect the data trust framework, designing and implementing policies, processes, and tools that ensure data is accurate, secure, and accessible to the right people at the right time, directly influencing how product, marketing, operations, and other teams leverage data to make smarter, faster, and more ethical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the creation and rollout of an enterprise‑wide data governance strategy aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
• Define and maintain data standards, taxonomies, and metadata management practices.
• Partner with engineering teams to implement data quality monitoring tools and automated validation processes.
• Establish clear data ownership and stewardship models across departments.
• Drive compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and internal security policies.
• Facilitate data governance councils and working groups to foster a culture of accountability and data literacy.
• Monitor and report on data governance KPIs, highlighting improvements and areas for action.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or demonstrated equivalent experience.
• Proven experience (5+ years) in data governance, data management, or related roles.
• Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Purview Unified Catalog, Data Map, lineage, classification, sensitivity labels, glossary, data product curation, metadata management, and governance workflows across cloud, on‑premises, and SaaS assets.
• Practical understanding of Microsoft Fabric and Power BI governance: workspaces, OneLake, Lakehouses, Warehouses, Dataflows Gen2, pipelines, semantic models, reports, endorsement/certification practices, workspace security, data access controls, and governed self‑service analytics.
• Familiarity with Azure data platform integration and data quality: Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, SQL, data lineage capture, pipeline monitoring, data quality rules, validation controls, role‑based access, and integration patterns supporting trusted, auditable data delivery.

Skills

• Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA‑DMBOK) and best practices.
• Hands‑on experience with governance and catalog tools.
• Familiarity with data privacy laws and compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication skills to bridge technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to translate governance principles into practical, scalable solutions.
