About the Role

The Data BP team on Data Platform USDS ensures the stability, reliability, scalability, and risk management of TikTok's US data processing ecosystem. We maintain and operate both batch and streaming pipelines for vertical businesses such as TikTok, TikTok Shop, and TikTok Live while adhering to strict data compliance standards. As a Tech Lead Manager, you will lead a team of data engineers in maintaining, optimizing, and scaling one of the world's largest data platforms, directly supporting TikTok's US operations and impacting hundreds of millions of users.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee project management and cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-quality delivery across the project lifecycle.
  • Design and build scalable big data platforms, pipelines, and services supporting large-scale batch and real-time data processing.
  • Define and drive architecture standards, including data modeling, pipeline design, and data quality frameworks to ensure trusted datasets.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of data solutions from design through development, testing, deployment, and optimization.
  • Partner with Product, Analytics, Data Science, and Engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
  • Define key metrics and leverage data to measure performance, guide prioritization, and support decision-making.
  • Optimize large-scale data processing systems for performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Establish strong execution practices, including planning, prioritization, and delivery governance across multiple initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, and security standards in all data solutions.
  • Communicate technical concepts and data insights effectively to both technical and executive audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience building and scaling enterprise-grade data platforms in large-scale distributed data systems, with at least 3+ years in an engineering leadership or management role overseeing technical teams in a cross-functional and fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on experience building scalable data solutions with big data processing and distributed storage engines such as Hadoop, Spark, Flink, Druid, or ClickHouse.
  • Deep understanding of modern data architectures, including data lakes, data warehouses, and lakehouse patterns.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python (or equivalent language) for data processing and analytics.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience optimizing large-scale data systems for performance and efficiency.
  • Ability to influence data strategy and drive alignment across cross-functional teams.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $198,360 – $416,100 annually. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, experience, and location. Base pay is part of a total package that may include discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

Schedule

This role requires a fully in-person schedule, up to 5 days a week.
