Data Engineer, Senior

About the role

As a data engineer at Booz Allen, you’ll help turn complex data sets into useful information to solve global challenges across private and public sectors—from fraud detection to cancer research to national intelligence. You’ll use your leadership skills and data science expertise to create real-world impact by working closely with clients to understand their questions and needs, then digging into their data-rich environments to find the pieces of their information puzzle. You’ll guide teammates and lead the development of algorithms and systems, using the right combination of tools and frameworks to turn disparate data points into objective answers that advise clients as they make informed decisions.

Responsibilities

• Correlate complex technical findings into graphical, written, visual, and verbal narrative products
• Build advanced analytics and AI/ML models, including tools leveraging LLMs or agentic AI (data retrieval, cleaning, modeling, accuracy evaluation/testing, and visualization)
• Visualize complex data and concepts for non-technical leadership, highlighting system risks and articulating "go or no-go" criteria clearly
• Lead development of algorithms and systems in classified environments supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or Intelligence Community (IC) clients

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience correlating complex technical findings into narrative products
• 5+ years of experience building advanced analytics and AI/ML models
• Experience working on classified networks in support of DoD or IC clients
• Ability to visualize complex data for non-technical audiences
• Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraph exam
• Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience with scientific techniques (mathematics, statistics, information science, AI, machine learning, probability modeling, data mining, data engineering, or data warehousing), or 12+ years of such experience in lieu of a degree

Skills

• Development of algorithms using R, Python, SQL, or NoSQL
• Distributed data and computing tools: MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark, Gurobi, or MySQL
• Visualization packages: Plotly, Seaborn, or ggplot2
• TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph (preferred)

Pay

The projected compensation range for this position is $99,000.00 to $225,000.00 (annualized USD). Salary is determined by various factors, including location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, contract-specific affordability, and organizational requirements.

Schedule

Work model varies by position:

• Remote: Primarily virtual, with occasional in-person work at a Booz Allen or customer facility
• Hybrid: Frequent work from a Booz Allen facility, with potential visits to customer facilities
• Onsite: Work primarily performed at a Booz Allen office or customer facility, collaborating directly with colleagues and customers

For virtual and hybrid roles, employees are generally expected to have their cameras on during meetings to support engagement and effective communication.
