About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Data Engineer to join our dynamic Product Engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data processing, storage, and integration pipelines. Acting as a force-multiplier within your team, you will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, program managers, and designers to conceive and implement major features that significantly impact our products. Reporting to the Off Vehicle Manager, Software Engineering, you will play a critical role in creating high-impact data solutions that directly contribute to saving lives and improving fleet operations. Your expertise will support the creation of robust, reliable, and efficient data infrastructure, enabling advanced analytics and insights for our stakeholders. Qualifications 6+ years of professional experience in software and data engineering.Proficiency in a major programming language such as GoLang, Java, or Python with 6+ years of experience.Extensive experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark) with a focus on data modeling.Strong background in cloud services and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) with at least 4 years of hands-on experience.Expertise in designing and maintaining batch and streaming data pipelines using tools like Apache Airflow or Benthos.Knowledge of modern data stacks, including data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration components.Understanding of data lakes and warehouses such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Redshift is preferred.Experience with CI/CD practices, source control, and observable engineering practices.U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance are required.Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Cyber Intelligence, or a related field is preferred.Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites for field support and deployment activities. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure data processing pipelines for batch and streaming data.Take full ownership of feature development, from requirements gathering through design, implementation, and deployment.Mentor and lead team members to promote best practices in data engineering and software development.Write clean, well-documented, and testable code to ensure high-quality software products.Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to create semantic data models representing complex vehicular systems.Integrate data applications seamlessly across various components of the Shift5 platform.Develop scalable data products to support data-driven decision-making by stakeholders such as data scientists, engineers, and executives.Optimize cloud-based solutions for cost, performance, and observability using AWS cloud services.Analyze complex data sets to verify data quality, integrity, and accuracy throughout pipelines.Support the design and deployment process at customer sites, including occasional travel for field collaboration.
