Data Engineer II, Accounting, Accounting

We're the Accounting BI team, supporting Amazon’s global Accounting organization with process automation, automated reporting tools, and improved access to accurate, timely financial data. We partner closely with technical teams across the company and work in the diverse businesses and industries Amazon operates in.

About the role

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, embraces ambiguity, and enjoys tackling complex business challenges with data and technology. This role requires a strong background in both back-end and front-end development to maintain our web portal, deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, and the ability to optimize data for business intelligence solutions. You’ll need excellent business and communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders, define key business questions, and build solutions that deliver actionable insights.

You’ll architect highly efficient UI solutions, balancing scalability, performance, and user functionality using modern software development technologies.

Responsibilities

• Work with stakeholders and engineering teams to identify and scope the right data architecture and technology for analyzing Amazon customer behavior.
• Partner with engineering teams to enhance UI solutions, data infrastructure, and broaden access to customer insights via BI tools.
• Design, build, and implement scalable solutions using AWS and related technologies.
• Develop large-scale solutions using Python, React, JavaScript, TypeScript, and AWS services.
• Establish and implement technology best practices across the organization.
• Create proof-of-concept solutions to evaluate and adopt new technologies and tools.

Requirements

• 5+ years of data engineering experience.
• Proficiency with SQL.
• Experience with at least one modern scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Scala, NodeJS).
• Hands-on experience with AWS technologies such as Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles/permissions.
• Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices, including coding standards, architecture, code reviews, source control, continuous deployment, testing, and operational excellence.
• Experience with non-relational databases/data stores (e.g., object storage, document/key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (required).
• Master’s degree (preferred).

Pay

Base salary range: $132,100 – $178,800 USD annually (Arlington, VA). Final compensation will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
