Entarian is seeking a Data Engineer for the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Ordnance Information System (OIS) to provide technical expertise on a mission-critical program focused on developing, modernizing, enhancing, operating, and maintaining services for OIS systems. This position is on-site in a secured space 5 days/week and can be filled in either Mechanicsburg, PA, or Yorktown, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, construct, test, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and stable data architectures for OIS, such as databases and large-scale processing systems, and migrate data from on-premises databases to cloud-based solutions, transforming the data as required.
  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and build out new API integrations, ensuring that data pipelines are scalable, repeatable, and secure.
  • Implement and manage databases and data delivery systems, transforming them into insights, analysis, and reporting.
  • Identify, research, design, develop, and promote solutions that enhance the modern development environment to ensure systems meet business requirements and industry best practices.
  • Implement data extraction, data load, and database synchronization routines and functions (ETL).
  • Implement data governance and quality controls and monitor ETL/ELT jobs to ensure performance and halt any potential issues.
  • Improve system performance by conducting tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new elements, ensuring all data platform solutions adhere to confidentiality and privacy requirements.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure the data infrastructure supports required functions and performance metrics.
  • Design, model, document, and guide the logical and conceptual relationship of data and database changes.
  • Document data architecture and systems for both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk assessments.

Requirements

  • Must have DOD Secret level clearance to start (with willingness and ability for T3 upgrade to T5 background investigation); U.S. citizenship required for Federal Clearance.
  • Directive 8570.1/8140 - IAT II:
    • Baseline Certification: Security+
    • Computing Environment Certification: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Data Engineer, or similar equivalent Cloud environment certification, or Oracle Database Certified Associate or equivalent Database Certification (highly preferred to have in hand upon applying; if not, must obtain within 3 months of start).
  • BA/BS (in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field) or equivalent experience and 10+ years of prior relevant experience, or a master’s with 8+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with implementing data warehousing concepts, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and tools (e.g., Pentaho).
  • Experience with developing and administrating in PostgreSQL.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with other querying languages.
  • Experience in decomposition of Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures and triggers to migrate to Amazon Aurora DB, Postgres, or MySQL.
  • Proven, hands-on expertise in data modeling, schema design, and database optimization, with the ability to design, implement, and optimize complex data structures in production environments.
  • Knowledge of data security and compliance best practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently with little supervision.

Qualifications

  • Highly preferred DOD Top Secret level clearance to start (fully adjudicated T5 background investigation).
  • Experience with GitLab, Liquibase, CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Debezium, RabbitMQ, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in network and cyber security design, engineering, and operations with emphasis on Navy capabilities.
  • Navy experience.
  • Experience with cloud data services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with Cloud Relational Database Services (e.g., AWS RDS, Aurora DB).
  • SAFe experience and knowledge.
  • Experience with data warehousing and Business Intelligence tools such as RedShift, MicroStrategy, Erwin Data Modeler, etc.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages like Python, Java, Scala, or Go.
