Location: Richmond, VA / Charlotte, NC (Onsite) • Duration: 12 months

About the role

Data Engineers provide businesses with data-driven solutions to help improve processes, decision-making, and overall business performance. The primary focus is to gather, analyze, interpret, and present data to help businesses make strategic decisions. This role is responsible for designing data solution frameworks, ingesting data from various sources, and processing it using technologies like Hadoop, SQL, and Spark. You will collaborate with data scientists to improve data transparency and enable better decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and organize raw data.
  • Build data systems and pipelines.
  • Evaluate business needs and objectives.
  • Interpret trends and patterns in complex data sets.
  • Conduct complex data analysis and report on results.
  • Prepare data for prescriptive and predictive modeling.
  • Build algorithms and prototypes.
  • Combine raw information from different sources.
  • Explore ways to enhance data quality and reliability.
  • Identify opportunities for data acquisition.
  • Develop analytical tools and programs.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and architects on various projects.
  • Design and build data models and data product roadmaps.
  • Prototype solutions, prepare test scripts, and conduct tests for data replication, extraction, loading, and cleansing.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a similar field.
  • Previous experience as a data engineer or in a similar role.
  • Proven track record of managing and executing data projects.

Skills

  • Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Java and Python.
  • Experience with big data technologies like Hadoop or Spark.
  • Proficiency in SQL and other data manipulation languages.
  • Familiarity with machine learning algorithms.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Data engineering certification (e.g., IBM Certified Data Engineer).
  • 3+ years working with data migrations and/or implementations.
