About the role

AWS is seeking a Data Center Structural Engineer to join its design team in Herndon, Virginia. Engineers in AWS work to design resilient, cost-effective DC facilities. Our team is responsible for achieving a world-class uptime for our customers and driving to develop a fleet of buildings emphasizing security, safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, while finding new ways to meet AWS’s growing demand.

Responsibilities

  • Part of the design team for Amazon DCs in the Americas Region and impact other projects around the world.
  • Part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo.
  • Subject matter expert, providing technical guidance to team members, reviewing milestone drawings by consultants, solving large-scale implementation issues, and being responsible for structural design requirements.
  • Designing prototypical DC facilities and providing technical expertise to support AWS global infrastructure.
  • Collaborating with people across AWS to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
  • 4+ years of commissioning experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering.
  • US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
