Data Center Operations Area Manager
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast-paced technology company and a leader in the world of Data Centers. We are looking for a proven Data Center Technology Manager with solid experience in people management and scaling teams to drive the vision for Data Center Operations within the region. The ideal candidate would have a background in IT Infrastructure, Data Centers, industrial manufacturing (e.g., aircraft, automobiles, consumer electronics, heavy machinery), or Military.
About the role
The DCO Area Manager will lead a team of 70+ people on a 24/7 rotating shift across multiple Data Centers. Responsibilities include mentoring, developing, and growing people at all levels, supporting projects, and proposing scalable technical solutions. This role is based in the AWS GovCloud (PDX) region. As required by federal contracts, logical access to this region will be restricted to U.S. Citizens effective February 24, 2026, and may not be accessed from outside the United States.
Responsibilities
- Team management of Data Center Managers leading Data Center Technicians, including recruitment, people development, coaching, mentoring, performance reviews, and rotation management.
- Define and execute strategies to improve the efficiency and productivity of 24x7 Data Center Operations.
- Manage and continuously improve workflows, processes, and throughput for Data Center Operations.
- Ensure all operational KPIs and metrics are consistently measured and met within AWS Data Centers.
- Drive innovation and automation within Data Center Operations.
- Challenge the quality and quantity of services provided by the Data Center Operations team to enhance Customer Experience.
- Manage large-scale events in Data Centers, including crisis situations such as thermal or power events, networking issues, etc.
- Oversee vendor performance.
- Ensure Data Centers comply with all relevant security policies and procedures.
Requirements
- 2+ years of people management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Pay
Base salary range: $107,700.00 - $188,500.00 USD annually for this position in Hermiston, OR. Your total compensation package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
