Data Center Facility Operator
About the role
Serve as the on-site SME for data center critical infrastructure, handling escalations across the white space and the supporting facilities.
Understand and manage the design limitations and risks of the site, and audit colocation partners and service providers on their maintenance programs and effectiveness.
Own the change management process for high-risk maintenance activities in the data center.
Act as first responder on-site for incidents, driving resolution with support from engineering and infrastructure SMEs.
Partner with colo partners, vendors, and internal teams to keep the site reliable, and feed operational learnings back into design and process.
Responsibilities
- Handle escalations for data center critical infrastructure, including power and cooling systems.
- Audit and document maintenance programs of colocation partners and service providers.
- Manage change processes for high-risk maintenance activities within the data center.
- Respond to incidents promptly, coordinating with engineering and infrastructure specialists.
- Collaborate with colocation partners, vendors, and internal teams to ensure site reliability.
- Feed operational learnings back into design and process improvements.
Requirements
- Operated or led critical-facilities operations in a live data center, owning the physical infrastructure that keeps a site running.
- Have a deep understanding of the critical-infrastructure stack (power and cooling).
- Be the on-site authority and handle escalations related to critical infrastructure.
- Run change management for high-risk work and hold partners to a real maintenance standard.
- Be a calm, capable first responder when something fails at 3am.
- Audit, document, and improve the site's operating posture, making it stronger than when you found it.
Qualifications
- Experience in hyperscale or colocation operations.
- Familiarity with Uptime Institute or NFPA standards.
- Critical environment and MOP/EOP experience.
- Vendor and colo management experience.

- Strong technical knowledge of power and cooling systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage high-risk maintenance activities effectively.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $140,000 - $200,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
