About the Role

The Data Center Electrician is responsible for the operations of the Data Center infrastructure components, including but not limited to:

  • Mechanical Systems: Chillers, CRAC, CRAH, pumps, condensers
  • Electrical Systems: UPS, Generators, ATS, batteries, and DC plants

Responsibilities

  • Install AC and DC circuits from PDU to Customer Cabinets
  • Manage all aspects of the Electrical operations within the Data Centers and facilities, including:
    • UPS Systems
    • 13.2kW transformers
    • 480V Distribution Systems
    • PDUs/RPCs
    • Building Electrical
  • Manage and track cooling capacity, temperatures, and efficiency throughout the Data Centers
  • Manage and track electrical capacity, UPS loads, customer consumption, and breaker availability
  • Maintain detailed site specification documentation of As-Builts, Single-Lines, and pre-sales spec sheets
  • Plan physical environment installs, including capacity expansions, system upgrades, and new CRAC, In-Row cooling, UPS, distribution panels, etc.
  • Participate in equipment startup and commissioning
  • Lead troubleshooting processes and repairs in case of events or equipment failure; make recommendations to prevent reoccurrence
  • Optimize cooling and electrical distribution for optimal PUE
  • Manage and document vendor-provided preventive maintenance per manufacturer specifications for all equipment
  • Review and approve all facilities maintenance tasks/MOPS as part of the change management system
  • Propose improvements in urbanization, cabling organization, or any client-installed component
  • Oversee and monitor all facilities record-keeping and update dashboards related to this field of work
  • Maintain accurate site documentation such as maintenance records, power consumption, temperature trends, PUE trends, etc.
  • Ensure best practices are adhered to in cooling and electrical documentation
  • Participate in pre-sales engineering of Customer solutions
  • Manage installs against aggressive schedules
  • Participate in facilities post-incident reviews as required
  • Participate in regular facilities audits

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or work equivalent; a combination of education and experience is acceptable
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in managing mission-critical facilities
  • Knowledge of telecommunications and data center operations
  • Experience with cooling subsystems such as Chillers, CRAC, CRAH, etc.
  • Understanding of IT systems including servers, network systems, fiber, and copper cabling
  • Familiarity with Uptime Institute and GreenGrid principles
  • Experience in large, complex construction projects
  • Ability to read and comprehend single-line diagrams
