Data Center Electrical Engineer III

About the Role

As a senior engineering position at Rosendin, the Data Center Electrical Engineer III provides technical engineering information and assistance to ensure compliance with project requirements, engineering standards, applicable codes, and specifications. This role involves mentoring and training other staff and may serve as the Engineer of Record for assigned projects.

Responsibilities

• Design world-class data centers for the future of AI in collaboration with other engineers.
• Utilize proficiency in REVIT for engineering and design tasks.
• Oversee a team of engineers, designers, and staff on a project basis or individual initiative.
• Supervise, review, comment, and process equipment and system submittals.
• Manage process coordination between architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trades.
• Oversee the preparation of designs, including power, lighting, and auxiliary systems.
• Prepare power system single-line diagrams, including feeder, overcurrent protection sizing, and equipment elevations.
• Supervise or conduct short circuit and over-current protection device coordination studies and Arc Flash Studies.
• Perform distribution analysis, including voltage drop, voltage droop, and underground heat effect (Neher-McGrath) calculations.
• Oversee project specifications or equipment buy-out.
• Conduct field surveys of existing electrical conditions at job sites.
• Use engineering analysis programs and professional judgment to analyze loads, lighting levels, and short circuit currents.
• Conduct value engineering exercises to evaluate construction costs.
• Attend project design team meetings and interface with clients, architects, and mechanical contractors/engineers.
• Coordinate design criteria with budgetary issues and deliverables schedules alongside the Rosendin Project Manager.
• Resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors during project installation.
• Generate project specifications appropriate for the project.
• Develop a complete and accurate sequence of operations for all designed systems.
• Apply working knowledge of equipment and system testing and commissioning.
• Perform work involving conventional aspects of electrical engineering for high-tech, mission-critical facilities.
• Review plans, technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
• Supervise the design and progress of projects, coordinating with city, state, county officials, and other agencies.
• Prepare documentation for building commissioning.
• Resolve complex problems such as conflicting design requirements and technical issue resolution.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architectural engineering, or construction sciences.
• Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience.
• One year of on-site field experience is strongly encouraged.
• Licensure as a US-based Professional Engineer is required.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering subjects, data center design, power distribution, lighting, grounding, energy conservation, and applicable codes and standards.
• Proficiency in REVIT, Autodesk, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), illumination software, and Oracle software for engineering productivity and CAC generation.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities under time pressure.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player.
• Ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels, vendors, clients, and others.

Travel

Up to 25% travel may be required (does not include local field visits).

Working Conditions

• General work environment involves sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, and bending.
• Work is primarily conducted indoors with varying environmental conditions (e.g., fluorescent lighting and air conditioning).
• Noise levels are usually low to medium.
• Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs may be required.
