About the role
AWS is seeking a Senior Regional Design Manager to join its design team. This role is part of a global engineering leadership team, comprised of highly effective Architects, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Security and Control Engineers. The Design Manager will lead project teams, manage consultant deliverables, and collaborate with procurement and construction teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent DC designs and maintain a high level of quality within budget and schedule.
- Able to influence internal stakeholders, internal customers (operations), and external consultants to address program-wide design changes.
- Manage escalations, identify multi-disciplinary design decisions, understand design development, design change management, permitting (working with AHJs), and implementation (working with CMs/RFIs/Submittals).
- Project management skills (critical path schedule management, risk management, quality management, cost management).
- Design consultant management including procurement, contracting, deliverable management, and payments.
- Effectively and consistently communicate with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including the creation, tracking & reporting of metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality.
- Create global best practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the globe.
- Ability to motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in an explosive growth and deadline-driven environment.
- Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.
Requirements
- 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Skills
Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.

Pay
$136,600.00 - $184,800.00 annually
