About the role

Data Centers are considered Critical Facilities, supporting hospitals, laboratories, financial institutions, and public safety systems—operations where uptime is mission-critical and facilities cannot go dark. In this role, you will perform advanced troubleshooting, repairs, corrective maintenance, and routine installations of critical electrical infrastructure. This position is designed for experienced electrical professionals with strong hands-on expertise in mission-critical environments and a demonstrated ability to operate independently and lead work in high-risk operational settings.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical expert for electrical systems supporting critical facility operations
  • Evaluate and manage electrical load distribution. Develop and deliver plans to address overloads, phase imbalance, and high neutral currents
  • Layout electrical branch circuit distributions to support installations and migrations
  • Troubleshoot and repair Branch Circuit monitoring
  • Work with the team to manage customer order tickets
  • Manage inventory of circuit installation materials to ensure stock allows for timely installation
  • Manage contractor for all installation work, ensuring all work is performed within Equinix policies and procedures. This includes developing RFPs, submitting POs, scheduling, issuing required Equinix permits, and electrical permits with AHJ
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians
  • Oversee and direct vendor activities during maintenance, installations, and repair work
  • Act as a key contributor during critical maintenance windows, shutdowns, and infrastructure upgrades
  • Review, develop, and execute operational documentation including MOPs, SOPs, and scripts
  • Recommend improvements to electrical reliability, efficiency, safety, and operational standards
  • Maintain accurate site logs, electrical records, and compliance documentation
  • Support electrical permitting, audits, and inspections as required
  • Execute circuit installations, capacity management, and load balancing activities
  • Participate in infrastructure projects, retrofits, and expansions with an electrical focus
  • Support a 24/7 critical operations environment, including rotating shifts, off-hours work, and emergency response as needed
  • Provide escalation support during high-risk events or outages

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience supporting critical electrical systems in data centers, critical facilities, or regulated commercial/industrial environments
  • Experience working within life safety, compliance, and operational risk frameworks
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Sufficient computer skills to work with Microsoft Office Suites, email, and learn custom applications
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical job duties (climbing, kneeling, working in confined spaces), with or without accommodation
  • 3+ years of relevant electrical or critical facilities experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting 24/7 mission-critical operations
  • Background in union or non-union electrical work within NY/NJ metropolitan environments
  • Familiarity with local codes, AHJ requirements, and site safety practices
  • Experience leading vendors, coordinating maintenance windows, or mentoring junior engineers

Pay

The targeted pay range for this position in New York City is $67,400 - $101,000 USD annually. Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training. The pay range shown reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
