We are seeking a Controls Technician to join our Data Center Global Controls team, focusing on the service and construction of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) within Amazon data centers. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about customer experience, global innovation, and building automation.

About the role

The Controls Technician will participate in the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and startup of equipment and control systems for BMS and EPMS deployments. You will innovate on behalf of customers in data center building automation, mentor facilities team members, and manage small to medium-sized projects.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, service, and upgrade BMS and EPMS systems across multiple data centers.
  • Mentor and train facilities team members on BMS and EPMS operation and control.
  • Audit, maintain, and manage enterprise asset management systems for BMS and EPMS installations.
  • Perform point-to-point checkouts between field devices and controllers.
  • Conduct first-line diagnostics, troubleshooting, and maintenance of programming code and hardware for BMS and EPMS.
  • Provision servers, controllers, industrial PCs, and network configurations; test communication between third-party devices.
  • Install, replace, configure, and calibrate sensors.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and control panel drawings.
  • Understand closed-loop controls, field sensor scaling, and industrial controller functions.
  • Supervise low-voltage electrical contractors for wiring and installation compliance.
  • Support commissioning and system-level testing.
  • Create red-lined drawings and system documentation.
  • Follow change management processes for work requests and method of procedures.
  • Participate in factory-witnessed tests at vendor or panel builder facilities.
  • Recommend design improvements based on user consultation and system operation.
  • Perform root cause analysis during testing and commissioning.
  • Ensure proper safety methodology is followed by all personnel on site.
  • Work on-call and rotating schedules, responding to after-hours emergencies.
  • Monitor and review ticketing systems, perform root cause analysis, and prioritize tasks.
  • Manage service agreements, including vendor labor scheduling, quality assurance, and invoice review.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of professional work experience or technical experience in computer systems and technology components.
  • Technical (Military/Trade School) diploma or Associate degree with one year of experience in industrial instrumentation/controls, or equivalent electrical/mechanical operations experience.
  • Minimum one year of experience with mission-critical low and medium voltage electrical and/or mechanical systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  • Fundamental knowledge of network design, layout, and low-voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
  • Basic understanding of industrial control systems, controllers, and programming, including troubleshooting analog, discrete, and networked I/O signals.
  • International Society of Automation (ISA) Certified Controls System Technician (CCST) Level I or higher certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Walk jobsites with uneven terrain and work at heights or from ladders.
  • Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.

Pay

Base salary range: $32.93 - $57.64 USD hourly for this position in Herndon, VA.
