About the role

Our commissioning team specializes in commissioning the electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems of a diverse range of facilities, including mission-critical, industrial, healthcare, aviation, commercial, and education facilities. We ensure reliability, efficiency, and quality in every project. We are seeking a Data Center Commissioning Specialist - Electrical with experience in emergency electrical systems data center commissioning for major technology clients.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in on-site commissioning of critical infrastructure, including generators, automatic transfer switches, UPS, power quality testing, thermal imaging, and redundant power electrical systems.
  • Execute scope as directed by the Site Lead and the Electrical Commissioning Lead.
  • Provide timely reporting to the Site Lead and Electrical Commissioning Lead – noting any issues or items of urgency/importance; participate in commissioning-related meetings requiring articulation on technical details.
  • Train and mentor trainees on best practices for data center commissioning, including power quality testing, emergency power testing, thermal imaging, and redundant power sources.
  • Follow commissioning protocols directed by the client and supervisors.
  • Develop and review commissioning plans, including narratives, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance tests tailored to data centers.
  • Coordinate and work with mechanical CxA counterpart in executing commissioning work.
  • Prepare and submit final commissioning reports that align with major technology company expectations.
  • Conduct and document Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Coordinate and work with the rest of the team in executing commissioning work.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or A.S. Degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in commissioning, electrical engineering, or related construction trades.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (specifically EXCEL), and commissioning software.
  • Adequate understanding of electrical system installations with integration into Building Automation Systems (BAS) and advanced control platforms.
  • Level 1 Thermal Imaging Certification (can be achieved upon employment).
  • Proven ability to function within a team environment.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean background check (drug screenings will be a requirement of the site).

Qualifications

  • Experience commissioning enterprise-level data centers for global technology organizations.
  • Familiarity with Tier certification standards (Uptime Institute Tier III & IV).
  • Electrical Engineering Degree from a four year college; EIT qualification is a plus.
  • Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) or other recognized commissioning certification (e.g., BCxP, CCP, CPMP).
  • Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP) or equivalent is a plus.
  • Experience with LEED and energy efficiency standards for data centers.

  • Strong technical skills in electrical systems and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in thermal imaging and emergency power testing.
