Data Center Commissioning Lead

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Commissioning Lead to oversee the field execution of mission-critical commissioning activities throughout the US. This position will be onsite in Las Vegas, Nevada, and reports directly to AECOM’s Senior Project Manager. The role ensures that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and controls systems are designed, installed, tested, and operate in accordance with the Owners Project Requirements (OPR) and related industry standards. The Commissioning Lead collaborates closely with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and clients to deliver reliable, efficient, and resilient data center infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support commissioning field efforts for new construction and retrofit data center projects.
• Perform independent commissioning design reviews for compliance with OPR.
• Contribute to the development of the project commissioning plan and related L1-5 procedures.
• Assist in integrating commissioning activities into the construction schedule.
• Conduct site inspections to verify installation quality and system readiness.
• Collaborate with project stakeholders throughout each phase of construction.
• Oversee energization, startups, checkout, testing, and integrated systems testing (IST) of critical systems.
• Verify compliance with OPR for major infrastructure systems, including:
  • UPS systems and switchgear
  • Generators and paralleling gear
  • Air distribution equipment (AHUs, FCUs, CRAH/CRAC units, and cooling systems)
  • Hydronic systems (chillers, cooling towers, pumps, control valves)
  • Building Management Systems (BMS) / Electrical Power Monitoring
• Identify, document, and track deficiencies through resolution.
• Prepare commissioning reports and closeout documentation.
• Support client training and turnover activities.
• Maintain strong situational awareness and compliance with site safety and AECOM safety requirements.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field plus eight years of experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
• Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Tier 3 / Tier 4 data centers.
• Four years of commissioning, design, or construction experience in mission-critical environments.
• Advanced understanding of data center infrastructure and supporting systems.
• Detailed knowledge of ASHRAE Guideline and commissioning processes and documentation requirements.
• Advanced understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
• Familiarity with Uptime Institute standards and/or ASHRAE guidelines.
• Commissioning industry certification (e.g., CxA, BCxP, or CCP).
• Knowledge of redundancy topologies (N, N+1, 2N, 2(N+1)).
• Experience troubleshooting controls integration and diagnosing issues related to system sequence of operations.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in high-risk environments.
• Excellent communication and coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
• Detail-oriented with strong documentation and reporting abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and commissioning software tools.

Pay

The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, and experience, with a range of $130,000 to $200,000 yearly.
