About the role

The Staff Data Analyst within Upstart’s Servicing Analytics team plays a vital role in driving data-driven decision-making to enhance our servicing functions. You will collaborate closely with product management, operations, engineering, and machine learning teams to develop analytical capabilities that support our recoveries and collections strategies.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in senior analytical roles within the technology and finance industries
• Strong background in payments, product, or operations analytics
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or R for data analysis
• Experience working with large, complex datasets, unstructured data, data modeling, and data pipelines using tools like Databricks, DBT, Looker, Snowflake, Redshift, Tableau, or Mode
• Degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, or other quantitative fields
• Proven track record of deriving actionable insights and storytelling through data analysis
• Experience designing and evaluating A/B tests, preferably in financial or operational contexts
• Excellent communication skills, capable of crafting executive-ready narratives
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and influence decision-making at senior levels
• Experience mentoring junior team members in technical and analytical skills

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of analytical tools and capabilities to support servicing initiatives and improve operational efficiency
• Create and deliver executive-level presentations to communicate key insights and strategic recommendations
• Design and conduct experiments, including A/B testing, to evaluate hypotheses about user behavior and servicing strategies
• Collaborate with analytics engineering and software engineering teams to enhance data infrastructure and make new data accessible
• Develop and maintain business intelligence dashboards and reporting tools to support ongoing decision-making
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational enhancements through data analysis
• Partner with product management, operations, and ML teams to prioritize analytical projects and initiatives
• Mentor and coach junior analysts, fostering a culture of analytical excellence and innovation
• Participate in strategic planning and review sessions to align analytics efforts with business goals
