DARPA – Microsystems Technology Office (MTO) Functional Expert

MTO pushes boundaries in foundational science, seeking breakthroughs that create new capabilities and reshape industries. MTO’s focus areas include Circuit Development (photonic, quantum, and organic circuits), Microsystems Manufacturing Ecosystem, and Dual-use by Design.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington, VA. Some domestic travel (~20%) may be required.

About the role

Amentum is seeking a program management functional expert to support the development and execution of programs and strategy within DARPA’s Microsystems Technology Office (MTO).

Responsibilities

• Provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) to DARPA in executing advanced technology, research, and prototype demonstration programs.
• Offer management and strategy support to DARPA Program Managers, leadership, performers, integrated product teams (IPTs), and R&D communities across industry, academia, and government.
• Plan, direct, and coordinate task order personnel while maintaining fiscal integrity and operational efficiency.
• Support one of MTO’s functional/focus areas:
  • Hardware systems
  • Materials and processing engineering
  • Radio frequency
  • Engineering and Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML)
• Provide program management and acquisition support.
• Deliver overarching program support, including attending biweekly performer calls, major reviews, drafting programmatic documentation, and participating in transition partner and internal DARPA meetings.
• Author program briefings and reports.

Requirements

• Master’s degree.
• At least 12 years of relevant experience.
• Active Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• Program management expertise with demonstrated leadership in complex R&D environments.
• Experience managing large-scale defense R&D contracts and overseeing multiple technical teams and stakeholder relationships.
• Expertise in conceiving and conducting oversight of complex research programs requiring unconventional approaches.
• Independent decision-making capability on complex R&D engineering problems across multiple disciplines.
• Professionalism, maturity, sound judgment, and excellent communication skills for interactions with government program managers, technical personnel, and executive-level audiences.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret security clearance, with ability to obtain SCI access (U.S. citizenship required).
• Experience working with DoD stakeholders, combatant commands, and defense industry partners.
• Seven years of experience with DARPA programs.
• Five years of experience working with DARPA Program Managers.

Pay

Annual salary range: $150,000–$200,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
