Dance Accompanist

Summary Of Responsibilities

• In collaboration with the course instructor, provides musical accompaniment that enhances and supports the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class material.
• Provides professional expertise on the maintenance and acquisition of instruments.
• Responsible for storage of all instruments used in class.
• Provides musical accompaniment in support of the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class material.
• May serve as an assistant accompanist or musician for departmental rehearsals, performances, guest instructors, and choreographers.
• Stores all instruments used in various classes as needed.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

• Candidates must audition for the position and demonstrate the ability to provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class content.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in Dance, Dance Education, Choreography, Performing Arts, or a closely related field.
• Knowledge of classical repertory.
• Knowledge of terminology used in technique classes.
• Skills in musical styles and instruments that support the specific dance class.
• Ability to provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class content.
• Ability to play a wide range of styles with an ability to improvise and provide musical accompaniment that supports and enhances the rhythmic and qualitative characteristics of class movement content.
