Essential Functions
- Utilizes and maintains various company issued locate tools and equipment for proper use, storage, and upkeep.
- Collects GPS pinpointed data to map locates of underground utilities, including electric power, gas, water cable TV, and sewer systems.
- Locating and marking of natural gas pipelines.
- Collects data of excavated utilities on a jobsite, including potholes and cross bores.
- Interprets facilities to determine the presence of underground utilities.
- Thoroughly maps underground utilities in a designated area, accurately updating collection maps of the location, completing necessary documentation, and effectively photographing each job site.
- Completes all work in an organized, timely manner, within standard operating procedure.
- Removes and replaces manhole lids.
- Uses laptop computer or other electronic devices to receive and document status of excavation notices.
- Communicates effectively with supervision, operational support, and clients.
- Reports any issues in the field that may prevent accidents.
- Performs project quality control.
- Performs all duties assigned in a SAFE manner on private and public work areas.

- Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
- Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
- Able to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
- Able to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers.
- Able to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy.
- English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports.
- Willingness and ability to learn additional skills.
Experience And Education
- Experience locating underground utilities a plus but not required.
- SiteWise entry level basic locating training up to 45 days.
- Entry level HIP technician including Screening locate request, Interpreting Prints, learning HIP process such as field audits and basic standbys.
- Entry level introduced to special projects Pipe to Soil, Leak Survey, Atmospheric Corrosion, Line Marker Installs, etc.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.
- Minimum 1-year tenure in described job roles before advancement.
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications
- Possession of a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required.
- Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
