Position Summary
Lee’s Marketplace is a family-owned grocery chain dedicated to providing a positive shopping experience. As Dairy Manager, you will lead the Dairy Department, overseeing operations, training, and customer service.
Primary Position Duties
Oversee all daily operations, including product ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, and merchandising.
Maintain proper inventory levels through accurate ordering and effective control practices.
Train, supervise, and schedule dairy clerks or team members to ensure efficient operations.
Deliver excellent customer service by greeting customers, resolving complaints, and offering product suggestions.
Ensure department cleanliness and adhere to food safety and sanitation standards.
Report inventory needs, maintenance issues, and team performance concerns to store leadership.
Lead department and management meetings as needed.
Guest Service
Greet customers warmly and assist with locating or learning about dairy products.
Resolve customer complaints or product concerns professionally and promptly.
Provide recommendations and product knowledge to enhance the shopping experience.
Coordinate with guests in regards to special orders.
Ensure shelves are fully stocked and presentable to support a positive guest impression.
Product Handling
Assist in maintaining displays according to store standards.
Verify date coding on items and assist with proper product rotation.
Implement effective inventory control procedures through ordering and stocking of the Dairy department.
Record all damaged product and store it in designated cooler areas.
Order, receive, and stock dairy products using proper rotation (FIFO) to ensure freshness.
Handle all products safely and according to food safety guidelines, including cold chain management.
Maintain accurate inventory levels through cycle counts and shrink control.
Cleanliness and Safety
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Follow all safety and sanitation procedures.
Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to management.
Department Financial Management
Track daily, weekly, and monthly sales to ensure targets are met and identify areas for improvement.
Create efficient schedules that align with sales forecasts and labor budgets, ensuring productivity without overspending.
Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain accurate records to control costs and avoid overstocking or shortages.
Order Dairy products strategically to meet demand and prevent excess inventory, while working with vendors to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
Review department financial statements, such as profit and loss reports, to assess performance and make informed decisions.
Contribute to annual department budget planning and help manage expenses throughout the year.
Monitor and reconcile department sales, shrink, and waste reports regularly.
Approve and oversee markdowns, discounts, and department promotions.
Train staff on proper pricing and labeling procedures to maintain accuracy.
Team Collaboration
Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals.
Promote a high level of morale within department and store, utilizing friendly but professional methods of honest and open communication.
Build and support a culture based on relationships and continuous improvement.
Continually strive to build knowledge and skills, both personally and within the department and store through training and education of self and other team members.
Coordinate with the Store Director for the training of all team members involved with the dairy department, including trainers, assistant managers, department managers, and clerks.
Provide a professional example for other team members to follow.
Conduct team meetings and training sessions.
Assist other departments as needed.
Work in a fast-paced, sales environment with tact and patience.
Work with team to ensure products are sold well before their expiration date.
Position Requirements
Age Requirement: 18yrs+
Availability: 7:00am-5:00pm with necessary flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, twist, sit, and bend for extended periods; ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds; manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment; repetitive use of hands and arms to push, pull, carry, lift, reach, grip, and balance; occasional stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl.
Tools and Machinery: Pallet jack, forklift, box cutter, knives and blades, two-wheeler and six wheeler, hand-held ordering machine, computer use, phone/intercom, any other tools and machinery seen fit for role.
Education or Skills: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; prior grocery store or retail experience preferred (1–2 years in dairy or perishable departments ideal); strong leadership and organizational skills; basic computer proficiency (inventory systems, email, ordering platforms); strong knowledge of dairy products, shelf-life, and storage requirements; excellent communication, time management, and customer service skills.

Basic math skills for report management.
Great verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
