Dairy Supervisor
Reports to: Grocery Manager • Hourly position in the Grocery department at a retail store location.
About the role
As a primary contact for customers, the Dairy Supervisor provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Responsibilities include stocking, rotating, and facing merchandise, maintaining clean and organized shelves, checking temperatures in cold cases and coolers, and ensuring aisles are clear for customer walkways. May occasionally function as a cashier or use a handheld ordering device for inventory management.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Grocery Manager in directing the operation of the Dairy department, including supervising and training personnel.
- Maintain the quality condition of all dairy and grocery products, including stocking, rotating, and facing products.
- Discard out-of-code and spoiled products and maintain the backroom.
- Clean and maintain shelves, assist in ordering, receiving, storing, stocking, inventory control, and building displays.
- Encourage and maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on safe, friendly, and courteous service.
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
- Assist the Grocery Manager in planning, organizing regular and seasonal merchandise requirements, and special sales needs.
- Rotate and face product; process and discard outdated and spoiled products.
- Clean and dust shelves, order dairy merchandise, and train, teach, and coach dairy stocking and conditioning standards.
- Assist with dry grocery order writing, stocking, and conditioning.
- Work on new items and assist with the reclamation process.
- Manage backroom inventory, conditions, and standards.
- Assist with grocery department merchandising and building displays.
Requirements
- Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
- Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
- Successful completion of all company training courses.
- Ability to interact professionally with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to use cash registers and self-check-out registers as required.
- Basic math skills to calculate prices and make change.
- Ability to handle all forms of tender.
- Knowledge of products, product pricing, and store layout.
- Ability to memorize procedures and look up PLU codes.
- Ability to make quality decisions and work independently when necessary.
- Ability to multitask while working under stress and time constraints.
- Ability to complete tasks assigned in the expected time frame.
- Must be 18 years old and able to operate a bailer and electrical equipment.
- Must report to work in proper uniform per company policy.

Working conditions consist of a temperature-controlled store environment with occasional exposure to outdoor temperatures. Frequent exposure to temperatures of 35° Fahrenheit in cold cases, 28° Fahrenheit in coolers, and -20° Fahrenheit in freezers.
