About the role
The Dairy Manager is first and foremost responsible for guest relations and satisfaction by building a reputation for Ultimate Service. They lead the efficient, effective, safe, legal, and profitable operations of the Dairy Department while coordinating human relations and ensuring execution of all company and department policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- When a guest enters the area or department, the first and most important responsibility is to acknowledge, greet, and engage that guest.
- Hire, train, and manage the performance of team members.
- Communicate information effectively to the entire department.
- Maintain a positive atmosphere, spirit, and morale within the department.
- Demonstrate effective leadership skills by managing time and delegation.
- Develop team members and future leaders using available materials and systems.
- Support and execute division concepts and programs.
- Execute and meet financial goals.
- Identify areas of opportunity throughout the store and within the department.
- Ensure quality and consistent product availability and solutions for guests.
- Safeguard, control, and monitor all department assets, ensuring policies and procedures are implemented for asset control.
- Practice safe work habits; maintain high levels of store cleanliness, organization, and a safe work environment.
- Oversee department systems and processes to ensure consistent and correct utilization.
- Direct meetings with the department leadership team to plan production and promotion goals.
- Verify team member schedules against business needs.
- Coach and discipline team members as necessary in accordance with policy and procedures, with support from Talent Management.
- Ensure all books and manuals are kept updated.
- Oversee adherence to Food Safety Procedures.
- Approve all purchase orders and maintain adequate stock levels.
- Keep shelves full of ad merchandise and manage back stock.
- Enforce proper rotation procedures.
- Ensure all tags are properly placed and in good condition.
- Demonstrate good conflict management skills.
- Perform other duties assigned by upper management.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a grocery or dairy department.
- Ability to work the scheduled shift as needed to meet store and guest needs.
- Ability to work and communicate professionally with all levels of management and subordinates.
- Self-motivated, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to perform physical aspects of the position, including bending, squatting, standing, lifting at a height of 5 feet, climbing, pushing, pulling, and walking.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 lbs. and push/pull up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to work in a freezer and/or fridge for extended periods.
- Technical skills to perform basic math and computer tasks (Word, Excel, Email).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, efficient, and controlled manner.
- Must maintain Certified Food Safety Manager certification.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Flexibility to work various hours/shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to attend meetings, including out-of-town meetings requiring overnight stays.
- Ability to function as a team member and get along with others.
