Daily Substitute Teacher, St. Anne School

About the role

Daily Substitute Teacher reports to the School Principal. This role fills in for the classroom teacher (K–8th grade) in their temporary absence, following constructed lesson plans and daily activities while guiding students in the classroom.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a well-managed classroom and a safe, positive learning environment.
• Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria.
• Follow and implement lesson plans, classwork, homework, and tests; attend parent–teacher conferences if needed.
• Provide appropriate materials and resources for student learning.
• Compile a report for the teacher including student attendance, lesson-plan progress, disciplinary actions, and positive developments.
• Know and follow emergency evacuation routes, school procedures, and classroom regulations.
• Support the school’s culture of faith, continuous learning, quality, integrity, mutual respect, and Catholic values.
• Model expectations set forth in the school and diocesan handbooks; perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or an Education-related field.
• Teaching certification is a plus.

• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and supervise an educational program set by the classroom teacher.
• Effective communication with parents, students, and coworkers in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
• Understanding of child development and the skills necessary to relate to students.
• Understanding of supervising employees and the communication skills to relate to adult employees and volunteers collegially and effectively.
• Ability to handle classroom situations with fairness, patience, and calmness under pressure.
• Maintain a high level of energy, confidentiality, credibility, integrity, and self-confidence.
• Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and FBI Criminal Background Fingerprint Check per Act 153 of 2014; attendance at Protecting God’s Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear.
• Frequent use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue.
• Possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift and/or move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment; may occasionally climb stairs or ladders.
• Vocal communication and hearing are required for expressing or exchanging ideas and perceiving spoken information; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing computer data, determining accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing surroundings.
