About the role

Assist with quality dental care and associated services to patients under the general supervision of a dentist, performing a variety of patient care and clinical duties in a pediatric dental practice.

Responsibilities

  • Review the schedule frequently to maximize time management.
  • Welcome patients and parents, introducing them to the clinic area.
  • Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures.
  • Review treatment needed and answer questions prior to starting procedures.
  • Complete all treatment consents including re-care and operative sheets.
  • Perform routine dental cleanings.
  • Plan for the next visit prior to patient checkout.
  • Review charts daily to check x-rays, clinical notes, and frequency limitations.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and compile inventory lists for ordering.
  • Educate parents and patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs.
  • Monitor nitrous oxide administration.
  • Sterilize and deliver instruments to treatment areas; position instruments for dentist’s access; suction; pass instruments; stock supplies; write clinical notes; and perform other clinical tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with OSHA procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain care of dental units (flush lines, fill water bottles, place tablets in water, change traps).
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly duties as outlined in the OSHA Manual.
  • Take initiative with additional responsibilities assigned by the Clinical Coordinator.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Successful completion of a dental assistant program as per state guidelines.
  • Dental x-ray certification.
  • Coronal Polishing Certification.
  • Additional certification such as nitrous oxide monitoring (desired but not required).
