About the role

The Cytotechnologist Senior performs the duties of a technical trainer in the cytology laboratory. This job assists the supervisor in training, scheduling and assigning duties appropriate to each cytotechnologist, coordinating of quality control procedures, troubleshooting, maintenance of procedure manuals, training and documentation of method evaluations and inventory control in his/her primary areas of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Performs In Situ Hybridization techniques
  • Assists on deep Fine Needle aspiration (FNA) and Ultrasound Guided Fine needle Aspiration (US-FNA)
  • Examines cell samples and makes primary diagnoses on all cases (GYN, Non-gyn and FNA)
  • Makes final diagnoses on normal limit GYN, preliminary diagnoses on abnormal GYN, all Non-gyn and FNA
  • Demonstrates an ability to identify and solve problems with initiative and good judgment to reach quality decisions in leading the cytology staff
  • Placing orders for equipment and office supplies for Cytology, CDC and Surgical Pathology (if requested)
  • Maintains a constant awareness of new technologies and evaluates tests offered for accuracy, precision and economy

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Cytotechnologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology within 6 months of employment into position
  • Current CT (ASCP) license required for continued employment
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical work experience as a Cytotechnologist
  • Experience in specific specialties such as deep FNA, US-FNA and In Situ Hybridization technique may be required depending on the laboratory assignment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science (Cytotechnology Track) from an accredited program
  • PREFERRED: Master’s Degree in Health Education, Cytotechnology or Clinical Lab Science from an accredited program
