Cytologist - Laboratory - PRN

About the Role

Performs cytology specimen preparation, staining, and microscopic evaluation to detect cancer, abnormalities, and pathological conditions.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and stains slides, operates laboratory equipment, and assists with fine needle aspirations.
• Examines cells for normal or abnormal patterns, marking unusual findings for review.
• Records classification, manages daily lab operations, and ensures quality control following regulatory standards.
• Performs maintenance, troubleshoots issues, and orders supplies.
• Participates in continuing education and staff training.
• Supports lab accreditation and compliance efforts, adhering to safety and infection control protocols.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in science or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of experience required; 2-3 years preferred in high complexity testing.
• Must hold or be eligible for Cytotechnologist (ASCP) certification and maintain current membership.
