Cyber Security Internship Program - Summer 2027
This is a full-time paid internship program spanning ten weeks from June through August 2027. Participation requires in-person attendance at your assigned location in the continental United States, in accordance with Capital One’s hybrid working model. Interns will be evaluated for a full-time position within our rotational programs, with a start date one year following the completion of the internship. Capital One will not sponsor new applicants for employment authorization or provide immigration-related support for this position.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher with an expectation to complete your most recent full-time degree program by August 2028 or earlier
- Must be continuing in the same course of study of your most recent full-time degree program following completion of the internship
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical and/or quantitative discipline, including computer science, computer engineering, cyber security, information assurance, information systems, information technology, or mathematics
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, network concepts, digital forensics, and operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Knowledge of network security and protocols (e.g., encryption, firewalls, authentication, perimeter protection)
- Strong interest in cybersecurity and a desire to explore multiple domains before specializing
- Coursework in IT fundamentals, cloud security, cryptography, network security, and/or data security
- Knowledge of industry-standard cybersecurity frameworks (NIST Cybersecurity Framework, MITRE ATT&CK)
- Hands-on experience or coursework in digital forensics, malware analysis, or incident response
- Strong analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
- Basic programming skills or experience in one or more of the following: Java, Python, C#, C/C++, JSON, SQL, PL/SQL, Shell scripts
- Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, utilizing capabilities beyond basic code completion
About the Role
As a Cyber Intern within the Cyber Security Internship Program, you’ll join a dynamic and immersive program designed to give you hands-on experience across a variety of cybersecurity functions. You’ll dive into real-world challenges across domains such as cloud infrastructure, networks, platforms, and application security. Projects may include cyber data analysis, automation, network defense, vulnerability assessments, and more.
You will work alongside Cyber associates, supporting network defense, offensive security, cyber risk assessments, and other initiatives. The program provides the framework to develop world-class technical skills, whether your passion lies in network defense, operations, security engineering, or risk management.

Pay
The full-time annual salary for this role is listed below by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on agreed-upon hours.
- McLean, VA: $140,000
- Plano, TX: $127,000
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location.
