About the role
Yukon Learn's Cyber Security Program empowers participants with practical knowledge and skills to protect themselves online. Open to all experience levels, this two-day, small-group workshop (4-10 people) is designed to create a supportive learning environment where participants feel comfortable asking questions, sharing experiences, and learning from one another.
Responsibilities
- Define cybercrime and the risks it poses
- Identify unique vulnerabilities and learn methods to mitigate them
- Comprehend the importance of reporting cybercrime
- Assess threats and vulnerabilities
- Identify scams and spam
Skills
- Cybercrime foundations: types of threats, their impact, and how to report them
- Personal vulnerability management: recognizing phishing, scams, and suspicious behaviour
- Essential security tools: firewalls, antivirus, VPNs, and safe Wi-Fi practices
- Digital footprint and privacy: managing social media, mobile devices, and IoT security
- Emerging threats: AI-assisted attacks and protecting finances/government interactions
- Legal and support resources: RCMP cybercrime reporting and basic legal implications
Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will:
- Have a solid understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals
- Be equipped with actionable steps to enhance their online safety
- Leave with a set of guiding principles for safeguarding personal information, maintaining privacy, and recognizing potential dangers
- Be able to assess their risk exposure and take proactive steps to safeguard personal information
