Annual salary ranges: $123,755 to $180,966 and $134,007 to $195,917. Candidates from the eligible list are normally appointed to vacancies in the lower pay grade positions. The current salary range is subject to change; confirm the starting salary with the hiring department before accepting a job offer.

About the Role

A Cyber Security Analyst plans, coordinates, and guides cybersecurity activities in prevention, governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) as well as audit, monitor, privacy, and business continuity activities in the context of cybersecurity. The role involves identifying risks for business and technology projects related to Information Technology (IT) and Operations Technology (OT) hardware or software implementations and upgrades. An employee in this class may act as a head worker and is required to follow all safety policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, and processes.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and guide cybersecurity activities in prevention, governance, risk, and compliance (GRC).
• Oversee audit, monitor, privacy, and business continuity activities related to cybersecurity.
• Identify risks for business and technology projects involving IT and OT hardware or software implementations and upgrades.
• Act as a lead worker in cybersecurity initiatives.

Requirements

• Graduation from a recognized four-year college or university with a major in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, or a related degree.
• Two years of full-time paid experience as a Systems Programmer or in a role performing systems or network administration, technical examination, assessment, design, and recommendation of enterprise system and application security; or
• Four years of full-time paid experience in a Systems Analyst role performing cost-benefit and feasibility studies related to the modification of existing computer-based information systems, maintenance and support of information systems, or implementation of new computer-based systems.

Qualifying work experience gained outside the City of Los Angeles must be in positions requiring a four-year degree as referenced in the education requirement. No other outside experience will be accepted.

Additional Conditions

• For positions within the Information Technology Agency (ITA) and Harbor Department, a valid Class C driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is required at the time of appointment. Applicants will be disqualified if their DMV record reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation within the last 36 months in any state or jurisdiction.
• Positions at the Harbor Department may require working nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Qualifying education must be from a college or university accredited by a City of Los Angeles recognized agency. List of approved agencies.

Preferred Certifications

Selective certification will be used for positions requiring special skills or training in one or more of the following areas. Only persons possessing the following certificates as of the close of the filing period may be considered for such positions:

• ISACA: CISA, CRISC, and/or CGEIT
• PMI: PMP
• IAPP: CIPP/US and/or CIPT
• ISC2: CISSP
• GIAC: any certification above 300-level
• CompTIA: Security+

  • Vulnerability assessment methodologies, digital forensic assessments, and technical evaluation techniques.
  • Endpoint, network, and application log analysis.
  • Technical countermeasures and defense-in-depth concepts.
  • Access control methodologies, identity governance matrices, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) frameworks.

Candidates will be notified by email of the interview date, time, and location, which may be held in Los Angeles or online. Interviews are anticipated to begin between Monday, October 26, 2026, and Friday, November 6, 2026.

A final average score of 70% or higher is required to be placed on the eligible list. Seniority credit of 0.25 points for each year of continuous classified City service will be added to the weighted test score of each candidate.
