Cyber Range Software Engineer TS/SCI w/Poly
Purpose and Impact
Amentum is seeking a software engineer to support Cyber Security Defensive Operations with configuration of a Cyber Range comprising hundreds to thousands of VMs using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Terraform, Ansible, and other automation technologies. The role involves collaboration with Hunt, Red, and Blue Team operators to configure the Cyber Range for training, force-on-force exercises, and mimicking customer infrastructures. The position also entails working with a team of other engineers to develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
Essential Responsibilities
- Participate in a larger development team supporting the Cyber Security Directorate's Defensive Network Operations organization with direct mission support activities when not working on the Cyber Range.
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, Batch, and Python
- Experience with networking and virtualization
- Experience with Terraform and Ansible
- Experience with cybersecurity tools, network configurations, and operational tools
- Network Engineering experience with Arista, Cisco, and Juniper
- Knowledge of operating systems, including Windows and Linux, application behaviors, and network traffic analysis
- Security Clearance Required: TS/SCI Poly
- Minimum Years of Experience: A Doctoral degree plus 4 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 10 years of relevant experience, or a High School diploma/GED plus 12 years of relevant experience may be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating in an agile development environment and DevOps
- Experience with container technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker
- Knowledge of penetration testing or red team operations
- Experience utilizing and developing with Splunk
- Experience with Nutanix
- Defensive Cyber Security Operations

Compensation Details
The base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $200,000, subject to negotiation based on qualifications and experience. The actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
