Engineering$30–$33/hrPart-time

Walk-in applicants are welcome at the Washoe County Job Fair on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 11:00am to 2:00pm at the Reno/Sparks Convention Center, 4590 S Virginia St, Reno NV 89502.

About the role

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) in Reno, NV is seeking a part-time Cyber Range Coordinator. TMCC's Cybersecurity Program, offered as both an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and a Skills Certificate within Computer Science and Technology, has been established for more than eight years and serves approximately 60-80 students annually across two career pathways: network defense and application security.

A hallmark of the program is TMCC's Cyber Range, a secure, isolated computing environment that simulates real-world networks, systems, and user activity. This allows students and industry partners to safely practice penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, network defense, and incident response without risk to live systems.

The Cyber Range Coordinator manages the day-to-day operation, security, and continuous improvement of this range. The role also leads the design, development, and facilitation of realistic cybersecurity exercises and tabletop simulations for a reusable exercise repository. Beyond student instruction, the position drives the range's role as a community resource by facilitating collaborative tabletop exercises with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and public agencies. These exercises help partners test preparedness, response protocols, and communication strategies during simulated incidents while giving students direct exposure to real-world professional scenarios.

This role benchmarks TMCC's cyber range curricula and exercise design against national standards, including the NIST NICE Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity, CISA's Tabletop Exercise Package (CTEP) resources, and practices used at peer community-college and federal/DoD cyber ranges (e.g., the Persistent Cyber Training Environment model). This ensures TMCC graduates and regional partners are trained to recognized, transferable standards rather than ad hoc criteria.

The Coordinator works closely with Cybersecurity faculty, IT staff, NSHE system partners, and regional industry/government stakeholders to ensure the range remains operational, secure, aligned to FERPA and NSHE data-governance requirements, and current with evolving cybersecurity threats and workforce needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation, security, and continuous improvement of TMCC's Cyber Range.
  • Design, develop, and facilitate realistic cybersecurity exercises and tabletop simulations for a reusable exercise repository.
  • Lead collaborative tabletop exercises with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and public agencies to test preparedness, response protocols, and communication strategies.
  • Benchmark TMCC's cyber range curricula and exercise design against national standards (e.g., NIST NICE, CISA CTEP, Persistent Cyber Training Environment model).
  • Ensure the range remains operational, secure, and aligned with FERPA and NSHE data-governance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Cybersecurity faculty, IT staff, NSHE system partners, and regional stakeholders to keep the range current with evolving threats and workforce needs.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in cybersecurity, systems/network administration, or IT infrastructure support, including work with virtualized or simulated network environments.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States at the time of employment (TMCC does not support sponsorship).

Schedule

Part-time, up to 20 hours per week.

Pay

$30–$33 per hour.

Conditions of Employment

This is a temporary Letter of Appointment opportunity at Truckee Meadows Community College. The position is part-time only and will not extend beyond September 15, 2026. The appointment may be terminated at will, at any time, for any reason, without notice, and the appointee has no appeal rights. Temporary assignments are not eligible for tenure.
