Cyber/IT Engineer Lead
About the role
BAE Systems is seeking a highly accomplished Cyber/IT Engineer to oversee cyber/IT projects supporting multiple Department of Defense (DoD) programs in a matrixed engineering environment. This leader will oversee and integrate activities across Cyber Defense Operations, Software Development, Network Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Windows/Linux Systems Administration, and Cloud/Hybrid Edge Cloud deployments. As the Cyber/IT Engineer lead, you will provide strategic direction, technical oversight, and hands-on engineering expertise across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud ecosystems. The ideal candidate will be an expert in secure enterprise architecture, Zero Trust strategies, modern DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD automation, converged/hyperconverged environments, and emerging DoD cloud, cybersecurity, and infrastructure modernization technologies. We are looking for a leader with an Agile, Scrum, and Theory of Constraints mindset—driving iterative delivery, automation, rapid prototyping, and optimized team throughput. The role is responsible for delivering secure, compliant, and mission-aligned solutions across unclassified, classified, air-gapped, multi-level security (MILS), and Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) architecture.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of approximately 10 engineers consisting of Cyber Defense Engineers, Software Developers, Network Engineers, System Administrators (Windows/Linux), Cloud Engineers, and Enterprise Architects.
- Provide senior-level engineering, cybersecurity, and architectural guidance across multiple concurrent projects supporting Army, Navy, Air Force, and SOCOM mission systems.
- Architect, deploy, and oversee secure enterprise solutions across on-prem, cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), hybrid edge, VDI, virtualization, and converged/hyperconverged environments.
- Drive Zero Trust architectural adoption (NIST SP 800-207) and implement secure automation, DevSecOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Guide RMF/ATO compliance efforts, including NIST SP 800-53 control alignment, STIG implementation, system authorization, evidence collection, and cybersecurity documentation.
- Oversee vulnerability management, incident response, forensic triage, penetration testing validation, and threat-informed cyber defense operations.
- Develop and present technical strategies, architecture briefs, PDR/CDR materials, ROMs, alternatives analyses, and cybersecurity risk findings to senior government leadership.
- Collaborate with DISA, Authorizing Officials, NSA, and customer cybersecurity teams to drive mission-aligned secure architectures.
- Champion Infrastructure-as-Code, secure baselining, AI tool Integration and automation, Vibe Coding, Zero Trust segmentation, and automation-first engineering principles.
- Promote Agile delivery, Scrum leadership, DevSecOps adoption, and continuous improvement using Theory of Constraints practices.
- Ensure solutions align to DoD Cloud SRG, FedRAMP, CSfC, MILS, Zero Trust, and Defense-in-Depth principles.
