Cut House Saw Operator

About the role

This position is primarily responsible for cutting material used in chassis. The Cut House Saw Operator will measure and cut material to produce pre-cut tube, reporting to the team leader to ensure daily goals are met.

Responsibilities

• Observe all safety rules and policies maintained by the company.
• Ensure accurate measurements on all cuts.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices throughout the installation area.
• Combine specified designs and measurements, appropriate component parts, cutting, and welding systems to produce pre-cut tube.
• Maintain raw material inventory (plate, channel, tube, angle, etc.).
• Move raw material to and from saw area.
• Maintain saw, saw tables, saw blades, rollers, etc.
• Ensure secure material handling through safety cross-checks.
• Post production tags onto the system using basic computer skills.
• Meet production goals and time deadlines for company projects.
• Rotate to other splice or production welding positions as needed.
• Demonstrate welding competency and knowledge of welding systems.

Requirements

• High school degree or GED.
• Ability to operate appropriate equipment including band saws, tape measurers, etc.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Basic computer skills.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills (English).
• Ability to read and process written communication including work orders, frame prints, and measurements.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Successful problem-solving skills.
• Ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy and maintain professional relationships.
• Ability to work under physically and mentally stressful situations.
• Ability to prioritize and adapt to changes throughout the day.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand basic blueprints.
• Lift Truck Operators License (training available).

Working Conditions

• Primarily on the floor/in the work area; may be exposed to elements (heat, snow, etc.).
• May sit or stand for several hours at a time.
• Repetitive use of hands to operate machinery.
• Very active role requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, balancing, reaching, handling, and climbing throughout the day.
• May need to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Work environment includes moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, and conveyor roller lines.
• May work in outside weather conditions in all seasons.
• Moderate to loud noise levels; may be exposed to dust, fumes, gases, noise, heat, cold, and wet work.
• Personal protective equipment provided (work gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs, cut-resistant sleeves, seasonal gear). Steel-toed shoes or boots with metatarsal guards required (not provided).

Schedule

This is a full-time hourly position. Hours and days are based on the need to support operations and production. Some Saturdays will be mandatory.
