About the Role
To arrange for the release of imported or exported merchandise from customs custody and complete the preparation of the CF7501 entry summary using online applications, including customer product databases and customer profile databases, as well as manual preparation to ensure compliance with customs regulations and admissibility.
- Audits computer-selected entries prior to submission to customs.
- Maintains uniform business practices and procedures to ensure compliance with customs and other government agency (OGA) laws and regulations in accordance with customer expectations.
- Analyzes import and export documentation to determine admissibility and bond liability.
- Arranges the type of release required (including transportation bonds) by customs and submits appropriate documents.
- Submits required information to all other government agencies.
- Analyzes documentation to determine the harmonized tariff number and eligibility for special tariff treatment (e.g., NAFTA, reduced duty rates).
- Ensures compliance with all government agency regulations and electronic submission of required information.
- Contacts carriers, customers, customs, and other parties to facilitate the release of imported merchandise and handles inquiries regarding clearance status.
- Completes the release and classification of imported merchandise by determining proper tariff classification, duty rate, and entered value using company systems.
- Determines the proper entered value and responsible customer for billing services and fees.
- Communicates with customers, CBP, and other government agencies to obtain necessary release information.
- Resolves customer questions regarding tariff classification, OGA requirements, NAFTA, and entered value calculations.
- Reviews entries identified by computer audit or customs for accuracy and compliance, correcting errors or referring files for correction.
- Identifies and refers compliance or admissibility issues to regulatory services.
- Compiles daily and weekly reports of activities and statistical information for company-wide quality measurement.
- Performs reconciliation activities, including monitoring reports, creating reconciliation entry headers, preparing submissions to customs, initiating billing, and maintaining regulatory records.
Schedule
The release function of this position requires working three shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays. It may also involve assignments at multiple office locations and working unsupervised.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- Two years of business experience or two years of college credits (preferred).
- Working knowledge of customs regulations regarding merchandise admissibility, marking requirements, and OGA requirements (preferred).
- Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Good mathematical skills.
- Proficiency in using alpha and numeric keyboards.
- One year of experience in classification or related activities (desired).
- Six months of brokerage, transportation, or customer service experience (preferred).
- Proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, and office equipment (phone, fax, photocopier, printer, scanner).
