About the position

The Columbus Metropolitan Library is seeking a Customer Services Specialist to join our team. This position serves as a primary contact point for customers using the library and is responsible for ensuring a positive customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Processes and sorts materials accurately and efficiently;
  • Serves as a primary contact point for customers using the library;
  • Supports location’s customer service plan;
  • Assists customers with library card accounts;
  • Manages money at the location;
  • Resolves customer account disputes;
  • Maintains library collection;
  • Provides training on library technology;
  • Coordinates volunteer activities;
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D required;
  • Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • Knowledge of Internet and database services;
  • Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems;
  • Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations, per job requirements.

  • Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles (e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions).
  • Work requires occasional lifting or pushing of up to 100 lbs. and the frequent lifting or pushing of up to 50 lbs.

Pay

Starting Pay Range: $18.01 – $23.26 hourly (commensurate with experience)

Schedule

Position Schedule: Monday-Wednesday 9:00am-6:00pm; Thursday 12:00-9:00pm (firm); Alternating Friday/Saturday shift 9:00am-6:00pm; Sunday 1:00-5:00pm (as assigned, 1-in-5)
