About the role

The City of Bellevue is seeking a Customer Service Specialist for the Highland Community Center (HCC).

HCC features a gym, fitness center, multipurpose room with a stage, classrooms, and a fireside room. At peak times, HCC is a busy facility with a variety of activities occurring simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the City in a positive manner and provides quality customer service to the public.
  • Answers and routes incoming calls.
  • Collections admissions fees and registers patrons using a registration system.
  • Handles payment transactions, including cash, checks, and credit cards.
  • Assumes responsibility for shift reports and accountability of funds.
  • Completes reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Communicates clearly and provides accurate information to the public.
  • Sets up/takes down for programs as needed.
  • Informs patrons of rules and policies of the City of Bellevue.
  • Affords assistance with cleaning the office and other areas of the facility as assigned.
  • Reports any damage, incidents, and injuries using appropriate forms.
  • Works with other employees to provide safe conditions for the public.
  • Reports any unsafe situations or conditions.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Attends scheduled staff trainings as assigned.
  • Adheres to safety procedures and standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; college level coursework preferred.
  • At least one year of prior customer service or recreation-related experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word).

  • Customer service in a busy environment and handling multiple tasks.
  • Handling conflict and dealing with emergency situations.
  • Working with diverse groups of people in a tactful, effective, and respectful manner.
  • Solving problems and communicating effectively, in person, via email, and over the phone.
  • Providing information about parks, recreation, and community services programs.
  • Handling emergency situations.
  • Handling cash and making change.
  • Using a computer to enter and track data, process payments, research information, and communicate program details to participants.
  • Working various schedules including mornings, afternoons, evenings.
  • Enforcing facility rules, policies, guidelines, and safety standards.

Conditions of Employment

  • All candidates will be required to establish employment authorization and identity at the time of hire.
  • The City is not able to sponsor work visas.
  • Positions may require completion of references checks, including at least one prior supervisor.
  • Some positions may require completion of a criminal background check prior to start employment.
  • Some positions may require obtaining a commercial driver's license (CDL), licenses, or additional certifications.
