About the role
The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) administers the city’s tax revenue laws to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service. The Customer Operations Division oversees DOF Business Centers, the City Register’s Office, and the Land Records, Adjudication, and Collections divisions. It processes tax payments, parking violations, and other charges, records property transfers, adjudicates violations, and manages enforcement activities for unpaid taxes and fines.
The Land Records Division and its Office of the City Register record and maintain all official real estate documents, including deeds, mortgages, and leases. The division operates in every borough except Staten Island, recording approximately 550,000 documents annually and collecting over $5 billion in real property transfer and mortgage recording taxes. It maintains and updates NYC property ownership records, provides research services, and administers the property tax lien sale. The City Register receives an average of 1,650 submissions daily, with a monthly average revenue of $278 million for Fiscal Year 2024.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers in the public area with preparing required cover pages for document submissions.
- Intake, scan, and return documents presented to the City Register offices for recording by mail or in person.
- Process certified document requests.
- Pull microfilm, microfiche, and Land record books upon request.
- Perform cashier duties and open mail.
- Research property ownership.
- Work on special projects as needed.
Requirements
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization.
- One year of satisfactory clerical experience.
- Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 keystrokes (20 words) per minute.

Pay
$42,288.00 – $48,631.00
