Customer Service Representative - North Chico Branch
Mechanics Bank is searching for a full-time Customer Service Representative to join our team at our North Chico Branch.
About the role
Under general supervision and in line with established policies and procedures, you will perform basic to moderately complex banking transactions, deliver a high level of service by accurately processing transactions, resolving inquiries, and performing account maintenance. You will actively assist customers, pay close attention to detail, and offer referrals for additional products and services. This role is responsible for operational quality, accuracy, and cash balancing processes while adhering to all related policies, procedures, and banking regulations.
Responsibilities
- Transaction Processing
- Perform routine teller transactions and work directly with clients.
- Accept, verify, and process basic to more complex customer transactions (deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, payments, transfers, mail/night drop transactions) according to established procedures and security guidelines.
- Assist customers with account reconcilement, copies of statements/checks, check orders, account closures, address changes, stop payments, debit card maintenance, and safe deposit box access.
- Work quickly to service customers while maintaining attention to detail and complying with all policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Assist at other branches as needed.
- Customer Service & Sales
- Provide exemplary customer service in person and over the phone, representing the Bank professionally in conduct and attire.
- Respond to inquiries accurately, promptly, and efficiently.
- Identify additional customer needs and make recommendations through proactive conversations.
- Define features and benefits of products and services, and provide information on rates, service charges, fees, and restrictions.
- Educate customers on banking technology, such as mobile and online banking.
- Cash Handling & Security
- Maintain and balance a cash supply for transactions, adhering to all cash handling policies and procedures.
- Balance cash at the end of each shift.
- Review customer transactions for red flags and fraudulent items, and maintain awareness of criminal scams targeting banking customers.
- Refer unresolved issues to Branch Management or appropriate departments.
- Assist in opening and closing the branch following established security procedures.
- Administrative & Compliance Tasks
- Gather data and process reports/forms (e.g., Currency Transaction Reports, Reg CC holds, overdraft reports) to ensure compliance with Bank policies, Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering, and regulatory programs.
- Assist with branch audit functions as requested.
- Complete required compliance tasks by assigned due dates.
Travel: 0-10%.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required (additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a banking environment with basic knowledge of bank deposit products and services preferred.
- 1 year of customer service and cash handling experience in a customer-facing role required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and customer service orientation.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as a team member.
- Ability to make decisions using available information.
- Basic knowledge of Bank deposit products and services.
- Ability to understand customer loan requests and make appropriate referrals.
- Ability to identify customer needs for additional services and make appropriate referrals.
- Knowledge of applicable Bank policies and procedures.

Pay
$20.00 - $25.00 hourly. Eligible for Retain Incentive Plan. Final compensation will be determined by work experience, education, and skill level, along with internal equity and geographic market data.
