Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional customer service to pet owners in a polite and timely manner, both in person and over the phone
- Schedule and confirm appointments, record keeping and organization, provide estimates and invoices for payment
- Respond with compassion and empathy in stressful and emotional situations
- Maintain a clean, stocked and orderly lobby and front office area
- Educate clients on wellness plans, pet insurance, food and products sold in waiting room
- Perform opening and closing procedures, end of day reports and deposits
- Data entry: records, client questionnaires, referral information, etc.
- Ensure that referral letters and lab results go to the corresponding veterinarians
- Admit patient: ensure that patient is weighed and all information is current
- Opportunities to learn Veterinary Assistant skills if desired
Skills and Qualifications
- Two years of experience in a veterinary setting (or human medical practice), preferred
- Minimum two years of customer service experience required (retail, food and beverage, etc.)
- General computer skills and ability to learn multiple programs
- Proficiency in front desk equipment (fax machine, credit card machine, copy machine, postage meter)
- Able to triage patients over the phone or in the waiting room to determine an emergency or routine office visit
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve
- Able to handle stressful situations and prioritize tasks effectively
- Team player, have patience and maintain a positive attitude
- Must be able to work seated for the majority of the day
