About the Role
The Customer Service and Benefits Specialist assists clients with completing NHSC applications, manages front desk operations, and ensures compliance with security procedures. This role involves handling phone calls, scheduling appointments, distributing mail and packages, and providing administrative and clerical support.
Responsibilities
- Assists clients in completing NHSC applications.
- Monitors front desk and complies with all security procedures.
- Answers, screens, and directs phone calls; takes messages and schedules/cancels appointments.
- Receives and distributes mail, documents, packages, and courier deliveries.
- Performs administrative and clerical support tasks, including basic filing and record keeping.
- Greets clients, visitors, and guests; determines the purpose of visits and directs or escorts them appropriately.
- Ensures each client is eligible for services at the time of service; checks daily intake sheets for missing insurance cards.
- Works with HIM staff to ensure proper training on release of information policies and compliance procedures.
- Creates medical record numbers for clients and completes data entry of demographic information without duplication.
- Receives cash payments, writes receipts, and turns in cash to financial services staff within 2 business days.
- Checks patient eligibility online with the state website for state or government insurance coverage.
- Sets up intakes in Centricity and maintains up-to-date client medical records.
- Responds to emails and voicemails within 1 business day.
- Assists with daily work duties when the Admission Specialist is absent.
- Submits timesheets and other paperwork as required.
- Maintains productivity at 95% accuracy without errors.
- Attends scheduled meetings and completes annual CARF-required Relias Training Modules.
- Ensures orderly and efficient front office operations, including opening and closing the clinic at designated times.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prior administrative or clerical experience preferred.
- Experience working with computers and technology.
- Highly organized with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing tasks.
- Excellent customer service, time management, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Knowledge of client needs and clinical workflow related to benefits.
- Ability to maintain up-to-date insurance eligibility information.
- Willingness to learn and implement policies and procedures.
- Ability to work well within a team and independently.
Skills & Abilities
- Yearly Verbal Handle with Care (HWC) training provided by McNabb.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and access items from all levels of shelving.
- Normal or corrected eyesight and hearing within normal range.
- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods throughout the day.
Pay
Starting salary for this position is approximately $17.11/hour based on relevant experience and education.
Schedule
This position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 1-hour break. If an irregular work schedule arises, the supervisor will notify staff as soon as possible.
