About the role
The Customer Experience unit within the Bureau of Public Transportation in the Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is seeking a Customer Experience Trainee (Connecticut Careers Trainee - Engineering And Related) to support the development of the Customer Comment Clearinghouse, respond to customer inquiries, and assist with various customer-facing initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of the Customer Comment Clearinghouse, an initiative to automate, centralize, and analyze transit customer feedback data.
- Aid in responding to transit customer and stakeholder inquiries and maintaining a communications log.
- Help develop and maintain reports, visualizations, and dashboards to communicate insights to staff, leadership, and stakeholders.
- Assist with the development of metrics and key performance indicators aligned with the Bureau of Public Transportation mission and strategic goals.
- Support the implementation, evaluation, and future updates to CTDOT’s Customer Experience Action Plan.
- Engage with transit customers and stakeholders through public engagement activities.
- Participate in other unit initiatives such as statewide fare transformation, FTA Title VI Service and Fare Equity analysis, and customer-facing transit technology projects.
Requirements
This role requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field and the ability to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program. Experience or training with Microsoft Office is preferred.
Qualifications
Must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree may be eligible for a 2-year development program, while those with a Master's degree may be eligible for a 1-year program. Candidates with three years of professional experience in transportation engineering or planning may be eligible for a 3-year program.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to acquire necessary knowledge and skills, problem-solving abilities, reading and interpreting written material, performing basic arithmetic, understanding charts, graphs, and tables, learning and reasoning, establishing and maintaining cooperative relations, utilizing computer software.

Pay
The first year of training for a Bachelor's degree and/or qualifying experience is FS 15 Step 1 ($58,130/year), while a Master's degree increases the starting salary to FS 15 Step 2 ($60,222/year).
Schedule
This is a full-time position with a first shift schedule in Newington, CT. Telework may be possible after a successful working test period, subject to policy guidelines.
