About the role

The Custom Integration Systems Designer is responsible for designing complex, custom systems that can be properly installed by our installation technicians. While the outside sales team handles most customer-facing tasks, the Custom Integration Systems Designer will accompany them on appointments when complex systems are introduced.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Outside Sales Agents to evaluate customer needs and engineer accurate system proposals, including product selection, installation scope, and precise labor estimations.
  • Oversee the design process by assisting the Outside Sales Agents during customer consultations to ensure all solutions align with technical installation standards and allocated labor hours.
  • Partner with Outside Sales Agents and clients to identify upselling opportunities and expand project scope.
  • Assist in the creation, review, and approval of sales scope of work.
  • Keep and update proper project documentation in the appropriate systems.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Outside Sales and Technical Installation teams to ensure seamless project handoffs.
  • Leverage vendor and partner relationships to introduce new product lines, track promotions, manage product updates, and deliver team training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in automation installation and custom design.
  • Proven track record of custom systems design.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen and ask questions to meet customers’ needs.
  • A natural passion for developing professional relationships within the design/build community and with potential/existing clients.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Must be able to clear a background check and drug screening.
  • Clear MVR preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree is a plus, but real-world experience is preferred.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience in the following fields: Home Automation; Network Administration; Audio/Video Integration systems; High-end lighting design and automated shades; Construction, design, or architectural; Luxury products or services.
  • Ability to analyze floor plans and work orders to ensure all items are identified correctly.
  • Industry-related knowledge and familiarity with products/solutions as they relate to the residential construction and security systems industry.
  • Meticulous organization to ensure no details are missed.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear.
  • Frequent use of step ladders and extension ladders.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Active construction sites.
  • Customer-occupied homes.
  • Exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust.
  • Moderate noise (e.g., business office with computers, phones, printers, and light traffic).
  • Office setting.
  • Infrequent remote work with local and/or overnight travel required by vehicle.

Pay

Starting between $60,000 and $80,000/year.

Schedule

Monday – Friday daytime work schedule (no nights or required weekends).
