Custodian, Third Shift

About the role

Perform general housekeeping and custodial duties. This position may require working during delays and snow closures, overtime on short notice (including evenings, weekends, and special events), and being called in at the supervisor's discretion. The role may also involve working in different buildings or locations to meet departmental needs.

Responsibilities

• Dispose of trash
• Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop areas
• Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas
• Clean fountains, ashtrays, and blackboards
• Dust and/or wash designated areas
• Clean restrooms and replenish supplies
• Wash windows and door glass
• Strip and refinish floors; maintain all types of floor surfaces
• Sweep stairs and stairwells; wash same
• Remove ice and snow from stairs, entrances, and walks
• Wash walls, window ledges, woodwork, and furnishings; remove graffiti
• Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean light fixtures
• Submit supply and repair requisitions to Supervisor
• Keep housekeeping equipment clean and perform minor repairs
• Ensure buildings are properly secured when leaving
• Direct activities of work-study students (additional responsibility)
• Set up areas for special events as requested
• Function as an attendant at special College events

Exposure to dust and harsh chemicals may occur. Physical demands include lifting up to 65 lbs. without assistance, frequent lifting/carrying of objects up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders/scaffolding/powered lifts, and traveling between buildings during shifts.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent)
• Familiarity with automated cleaning equipment
• Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a custodian
• Demonstrated sensitivity to diversity and multicultural issues
• Possession of a valid driver’s license

Pay

$15.98 per hour, plus shift differential.
