This role reports to the Head Custodian and provides custodial services to maintain an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. The position oversees facility preparation for activities and events, supports assigned custodians, and acts in the absence of the Head Custodian.
Responsibilities
- Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g., classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, pools, grounds) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
- Conducts training and drills with students and staff (e.g., fire, intruder, earthquake, health, and safety) to ensure emergency procedures are effective and alarm systems are operational.
- Consults with administrative personnel to plan, prioritize, and schedule custodial activities and achieve site maintenance objectives.
- Delivers supplies, mail, packages, and furniture to distribute materials to appropriate parties within the site.
- Distributes custodial supplies and equipment (in the absence of the Head Custodian) to custodial staff and storage locations.
- Informs students and site personnel regarding activities, safety issues, and proper maintenance of facilities and equipment.
- Inspects facilities to ensure they are suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and identifies necessary repairs.
- Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g., cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops) to ensure availability for proper facility maintenance.
- Monitors students and staff in work areas (e.g., halls, multipurpose rooms, lunchrooms, restrooms, grounds) to prevent injuries and ensure site safety.
- Oversees facility maintenance activities and assigned custodial personnel (in the absence of the Head Custodian) to ensure compliance with site requirements and standards.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to convey and gather information required for job functions.
- Performs minor maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture, and fixtures (e.g., changing vacuum belts, ballasts, faucet washers, air filters).
- Prepares written materials (e.g., supply requisitions, safety inspections, work orders, inventory records, time sheets) to document activities.
- Prepares the site for daily operations (e.g., opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways, snow removal, boiler cleaning) to ensure facilities are operational and hazard-free.
- Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies (e.g., paper towels, soap) to ensure adequate quantities for daily use.
- Requisitions equipment, supplies, and materials to maintain availability and complete jobs efficiently.
- Responds to immediate safety and operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, vandalism, alarms) to take appropriate action or notify personnel for resolution.
- Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and visitors to provide information or direct them to appropriate personnel.
- Secures facilities and grounds during the evening shift (e.g., doors, gates, alarms, lights) to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability.
- Supports other site maintenance staff (e.g., grounds, trades) to complete custodial activities.
- Trains assigned personnel to develop professional trade and safety awareness skills.
- Transports tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure availability at job sites.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience is desired.
Pay
$40,855.72 (prorated based upon start date) on the Custodial and Maintenance Salary Schedule, Class B - Step 0.
