Custodian/Porter - Manhattan

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs general cleaning and custodial duties in the common areas of the building.
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance such as replacing light fixtures or unclogging pipes.
• Affords assistance in cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and cafeteria.
• Assists in performing limited ground maintenance such as mowing and trimming lawns and hedges and cleaning snow from sidewalks.
• Ensures that heating and cooling systems are operational.
• Ensures cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked.
• Vacuum, sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors using brooms, mops or powered machines to strip floors.
• Washes windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
• Assist with Laundry Services.
• Clean and turnover housing units.
• Dust and disinfect furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
• Affords assistance in examining the building for safety hazards; reports deficiencies to Maintenance Supervisor, Director of Building Operations, and/or Administrator of the Facility.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

  Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience with custodial work.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
  • Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 60 pounds at a time.
