Part-time position; shift assignment (day, second, or third) will be determined based on district needs.
About the Role
This is a hands-on position responsible for performing custodial and light maintenance tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations & Safety, Lead Custodian, or designee. The role involves 95% hands-on work and 5% office-related tasks.
Responsibilities
- Performs a proportionate share of custodial duties for the building as assigned.
- Assists with extra work hours on short notice and provides event support as assigned.
- Provides quality control for buildings and grounds in accordance with the preventive maintenance schedule and reports results to supervisory personnel.
- Assists in the maintenance of lawns, fields, and shrubbery.
- Participates in snow removal, on-call, and emergency response duties, including mandatory response to every All-Hazards call.
- Performs minor repairs to custodial equipment and fixtures when feasible; forwards maintenance/service requests for major issues.
- Monitors custodial equipment and supplies for function, safety, and serviceability.
- Assists in ordering and acknowledging receipt of supplies and equipment; conducts inventories as required.
- Assists in refuse and snow removal.
- Stays current in custodial trends and practices.
- Assists district courier and maintenance personnel when necessary.
- Responds to emergency situations as directed.
- Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Operations & Safety, Lead Custodian, or designee.
- Maintains courteous relationships with staff and upholds confidentiality.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in custodial and maintenance work preferred.
- Current PA driver’s license.
- Ability to secure and maintain all appropriate clearances (e.g., first aid, AED, CPR certifications) and other job-related certifications as assigned.
Skills
- Ability to operate various hand tools and custodial equipment.
- Proficient computer skills, including use of building work ticket systems, email communication, and basic operation of alarm and access systems.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Effective verbal, electronic, and handwritten communication abilities.
- Ability to work as a team player to accomplish routine and unique projects.
- Good judgment to independently respond to unusual or changing circumstances.
Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands
- Physical: Sitting (5%), walking/standing (95%), frequent kneeling, climbing, and ladder work. Repetitive lifting of 60 lbs. or more. Normal vision required.
- Mental: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and analyze written and verbal communications.
- Environmental: Ability to work in various internal environments (may be disagreeable) and external environments subject to temperatures below 32°F or above 100°F. Must be able to work with custodial cleaning chemicals.
Internal contacts include administrators, buildings and grounds staff, teachers, principals, students, and other district employees. External contacts include parents and the general public.
